Demonetisation war: Congress asks if the nation is in favor, then why is Centre changing its stance every day
New Delhi [India], Nov. 22 (ANI): The Congress Party on Tuesday asked that if the Centre has taken the decision to ban high denomination notes in the interest of the nation, then why is it changing its stance every day. Talking to ANI, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhury asked, "If they are saying this is for the good of the people they why are they changing their stance everyday? Can they understand the pain of the common man? They are only connected with the business class and have destroyed the farmers and the poor." "We will like to ask as to why is the Prime Minister didn't come infront and answer to our question? Why is the Prime Minister escaping and why is he not answering. It is our money we have earned it with our hardwork. What right he has to order such a big step," she added. "I feel sorry for Arun Jaitley. He is the finance minister just for the sake of it. He has no say," she added. Congress leader Ambika Soni said, "We are not against the idea of removing black money but before taking such a big step they should have made some arrangements. This is the sowing season and wedding how will the people manage in such a situation?" Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had earlier said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has by this demonetisation move broken all stereotypes and created a new 'normal'. Jaitley, addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary meet, said the ban of high currency notes is a significant step taken by the NDA regime, adding it took a lot of courage to do so. Taking the opposition parties to task for training guns on the government for not debating the demonetisation issue in Parliament, Jaitley said the Centre is ready for a debate, adding the political rivals are creating an unnecessary ruckus for belittling this initiative. "We took the opposition by surprise when they asked for a debate and we agreed but before we could reply they started disruption by saying that we don't want to debate. We are ready for discussion on demonetisation and we have said it several times," he said. Jaitley also lambasted the opposition for accusing the Centre of leaking the news of banning high denomination notes to a select few. The Finance Minister also used the occasion to reach out to the farming community. "For next few weeks, we are planning to focus on the agricultural sector. Rabi season is also coming, we need to assist all these needs," he said. Also the Lok Sabha witnessed uproarious scene today as a united opposition stuck to its demand to discuss the demonetisation issue under rules entailing voting. (ANI)
