Demonetisation hits newspaper publication in Manipur
Imphal (Manipur) [India], Nov. 18 (ANI): The publication of newspapers in Manipur will be stopped from today due to demonetisation. In a joint meeting held yesterday afternoon in Manipur capital Imphal, the All Manipur Newspaper Publishers Association and the All Manipur Newspaper Sales and Distributors Association unanimously decided to stop the publication of newspapers across the state from today. In a joint statement, the associations said the decision to stop publication of newspapers is an after effect of the demonetisation of 500 and 1,000 rupee currencies. The statement further said that the non-availability of adequate legal tender notes has prevented regular circulation of newspapers. It also said that the inability of newspaper distributors to pay newspaper offices and the latter's refusal to receive these notes has compelled this action. (ANI)
