Demonetisation crunch: PM Modi calls on nation to 'embrace' digital banking
New Delhi [India], Nov. 27 (ANI): In the wake of the cash cruch being experienced across the nation following demonetisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called on the nation, especially the youth, to embrace digital baking. "Time has come for everyone, particularly my young friends, to embrace e-banking, mobile banking & more such technology," the Prime Minister tweeted ahead of his Mann ki Baat address. However, the Opposition has been resolute on its stand that the poor and rural population are not tech savy, which is why digital banking is not a viable option for them, adding that those living in regions mostly comprising of villages do not even have bank accounts. Later in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will share his thoughts in the monthly programme 'Mann Ki Baat'. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi urged citizens to vote on the demonetisation policy through the Narendra Modi app on their mobile phones. He asked the public to participate in a survey where a number of questions have been posed with regard to scrapping of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes. "I want your first-hand view on the decision taken regarding currency notes. Take part in the survey on the NM App," he tweeted. According to the result of the survey, the scheme has the support of over 93 percent of the 5,00,000 people, a statement put out by Prime Minister Modi's website said. "More than 90% of the respondents feel the government's move to tackle black money is above four-star rating. 73% of them give it five-star rating of brilliant. On the overall fight against corruption, more than 92% of respondents either rate the government as very good or good. 57% of them rate the fight as Very Good," the statement read. (ANI)
