New Delhi [India], November 24 (ANI): Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Saturday expressed his dissatisfaction over the results of the Maharashtra election, terming it as "unacceptable."
Speaking to ANI, after the results of the Maharashtra and Jharkhand elections were declared, Alvi noted that India and democracy had lost.
Congress leader Rashid Alvi said, "The way elections in Maharashtra were held shortly after Haryana, and almost all candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won, this has never happened in India. BJP has won Maharashtra, but India has lost. Democracy has lost. The Constitution has lost."
"The elections in Maharashtra are unacceptable," he added.
Notably, the ruling Mahayuti alliance won the Maharashtra assembly polls. BJP led the Mahayuti and registered a smashing victory, carrying its allies--Shiv Sena and NCP--with its momentum.
Following the landslide victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined celebrations at BJP headquarters and emphasised his 'Ek hain toh safe hain' slogan, saying that the biggest message of the Maharashtra elections is unity.
Reacting to PM Modi's statement after Mahayuti's win in the Maharashtra Election 2024, Congress leader Udit Raj said, "PM Narendra Modi said that they have won because people unitedly voted for them after his 'ek hain toh safe hain' slogan. If this is the case, why didn't they win Jharkhand? If they had won in Savarkar's name, it would have happened long ago."
He further expressed scepticism over the results of the Maharashtra assembly polls, calling them 'suspicious.'
"They are just trying to cover up. Something suspicious has happened during the Maharashtra elections. We have doubts about the EVM," he added.
Notably, the BJP has won 132 seats, Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has won 57 seats, and the NCP, led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, won 41 seats. The state has 288 assembly seats.
The constituents of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) suffered a rude jolt with Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray winning 20 seats, Congress 16, and NCP (SCP) led by Sharad Pawar only 10 seats.
The BJP saw a fabulous strike rate with the party winning 133 of the 148 seats it contested in Maharashtra. The party's allies Shiv Sena and NCP also have a very good strike rate.
The assembly elections in Maharashtra were held on November 20.
In Jharkhand, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led alliance is set to retain the power. The assembly polls were conducted in two phases in Jharkhand. The first phase was held on November 13 and the second phase on November 20. (ANI)
