New Delhi [India], February 8 (ANI): BJP candidate from Patel Nagar seat, Raaj Kumar Anand on Saturday accused AAP of misleading the public with false allegations and said that the Delhi residents are "tired" of the Aam Aadmi Party and seeking development in the national capital.
Emphasising infrastructure growth and Dalit welfare, the leader reaffirmed their commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for governance.
"This AAP government has a habit of making false allegations. People want work, and they are tired of this government," the BJP leader stated.
Laying out key priorities, the leader stressed the need for infrastructural improvements and upliftment of Dalits. "My priority will be work--enhancing infrastructure development and ensuring welfare for Dalits and the weaker sections," he said.
Praising PM Modi's leadership, the BJP leader highlighted his attention to grassroots issues, citing his efforts in improving sanitation for women.
"There have been many able and powerful Prime Ministers in our country, but no PM has ever gone and worked for the plight of women's toilets. If PM Modi focuses on even the smallest issues, then Delhi will also prosper under him," he said.
The BJP banked on Modi's governance model to challenge the AAP's dominance in the capital.
As counting results trickled in, the Bharatiya Janata Party was leading from two seats in the Delhi Assembly election results, as per the early trends from the Election Commission of India.
BJP candidate from Vishwas Nagar, Om Prakash Sharma was currently leading from the seat with a vote margin of 1741. On the Shahdara seat, BJP's Sanjay Goyal is leading by a small margin of 506 votes.
Along with Delhi, the counting for by-elections in Uttar Pradesh's Milkipur seat and Tamil Nadu's Erode seat is also underway.
All security arrangements have been put in place. Polling for the 70-member assembly was held on February 5, with a total voter turnout recorded at 60.54 per cent.
The AAP is aiming for a third consecutive term, while the BJP is making all efforts to return to power after more than two decades in the National Capital.
However, AAP leaders said that exit polls have historically underestimated the party's performance. They expressed confidence in returning to power.
The BJP's campaign, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, targeted the AAP over alleged toxicity in the Yamuna River and the renovation of Arvind Kejriwal's residence as Chief Minister.
The PM also used the terms "Aapda" and "Sheesh Mahal" to slam Kejriwal.
Key constituencies include New Delhi, where AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is contesting against Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit and BJP's Parvesh Verma.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi is facing BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress candidate Alka Lamba. The campaign saw sharp exchanges between leaders of the three parties.
The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seat.
AAP has dominated the last two assembly elections in Delhi, but the BJP is looking to break the trend and reclaim power in the National Capital after a gap of more than two decades. (ANI)
