New Delhi [India], January 5 (ANI): Delhi Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit termed the brutal assault of a father and son in the Laxmi Nagar area as "deeply disturbing," blaming it on what he called the systematic weakening of the Delhi Police and neglect of its core responsibility of maintaining law and order.
"This is very disturbing. But this is a consequence of how they have gradually weakened the Delhi Police. The Delhi Police is busy serving VIPs, and its primary duty of maintaining law and order is being completely neglected," Dikshit said. He alleged that the Home Minister has "transformed the Delhi Police into his personal or VIP force," weakening an institution that was once considered a model for the country.
Dikshit's remarks came amid outrage over a shocking incident reported from Laxmi Nagar, where a group of men allegedly assaulted a man and his son in full public view, stripped them, and beat them mercilessly while bystanders watched. A video of the assault has since gone viral on social media, triggering widespread condemnation.
According to the victims' family, the incident occurred on January 2, around 3-3:30 pm, outside their own property. The victim's mother, Rita Garg, alleged that the violence began when they were standing outside their house. She accused several men, including Pintu Yadav, Shubham Yadav and Vikas Yadav, of attacking her husband, dragging her son from the house, stripping him naked and beating him brutally in public.
"They humiliated my son in front of everyone. People kept watching. Is this less than a rape?" she said, describing the trauma faced by her family.
Her husband, Rajesh Garg, said his son is to be married in 10 days and has been left severely traumatised. He claimed that both his sons have since fled their home, switched off their mobile phones and remain untraceable due to fear.
While police have reportedly arrested one accused, Pintu Yadav, the family alleges that the other accused are absconding. They have demanded swift arrests and the harshest possible punishment.
The Delhi Police said an investigation is underway. (ANI)
