Delhi has given decisive mandate against politics of ego: BJP

New Delhi [India], April 27 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the opposition parties over their allegation that the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used during the Municipal Corporation polls were tampered with and said it is an insult of mandate of people of Delhi. Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told ANI, "The opposition parties should understand that they are not just banging their head on EVMs but are insulting the people's mandate." Naqvi further asserted that the people of Delhi have given a decisive mandate against this politics of ego, anarchy and misconduct. "The opposition parties' slogan is to stop Modi-led-BJP government. But people want to know about their policies. They should know on what things they should be one & together," he added. Bihar's ruling Grand Alliance partners, Janata Dal (United) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) yesterday reiterated their call for opposition unity to counter the BJP following its victory in the Delhi municipal elections. "If we (opposition) do not unite against the BJP, we will get similar results in coming polls," said RJD chief Lalu Prasad. The BJP swept the polls to Delhi's three municipal corporations, North, East and South winning 181 seats out of 270 seats on Wednesday. The party succeeded in retaining power in the three civic bodies for the third consecutive term. The AAP with 48 seats finished second, Congress with 29 seats third. 12 seats went to others including Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Samajwadi Party (SP), Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Independents. Reacting to poll results, senior BJP leader and Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said, the result is a message for AAP to give up negative politics and work for constructive politics. He rejected the AAP's allegations of EVMs tempering terming them as wild and baseless. Delhi BJP Unit Chief Manoj Tiwari also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah's leadership and policies for the victory. (ANI)
