Delhi gets first ever all-women PCR cruisers
New Delhi [India], Sept. 10 (ANI): In a first of its kind initiative, the Delhi Police have launched a five all-women Police Control Room (PCR) cruisers to patrol through the city, in an attempt to keep a tab and contain crimes against women. This comes as a short hand relief to the national capital which has been facing a high rise in the rates of crimes against women. The all-women PCRs, each with three women personnel, will move through five areas which include Vigyan Bhawan, Jesus and Mary College, Khan Market Metro Station, American Centre at Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Moti Lal Nehru Marg. Speaking about the initiative, Special Commissioner of Police (Operations) Sanjay Beniwal said, "It is an idea that needs to be executed now. I don't find any difference between the abilities of a man and a woman. So, it is baseless to ask whether this initiative will be successful or not. It will of course be a success. The women personnel, deployed in these PCR vans, are as well trained as the men." "For the time being, we have deployed these vans in areas where more women turn up. With time, when there will be more vans, we will deploy them in every part of Delhi," he added. Around 20 women police personnel have been trained for the job. Each one of them has been provided adequate training and valid driving licenses. On a related note, presence of various PCR vans in the city at different locations act as psychological deterrence for criminals and antisocial elements. In order to equip them with the new nature of responsibilities, special refresher course was arranged in the Subsidiary Training Unit PCR, Rajender Nagar about behaviour soft skills, communication skills and law. The impact assessment of this initiative would be conducted after a quarter, and if results are encouraging, the project scheme would be extended to other areas of the national capital, especially crime prone areas for women.
