Delhi CM Kejriwal granted bail in DDCA case
New Delhi [India], Mar. 21 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday was granted bail by a Delhi court in connection with a criminal defamation case filed by the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA). Kejriwal, who appeared in the lower court after being slammed for non-appearance, was granted bailed on furnishing a personal bond of Rs. 10,000 and a surety of the same amount. The AAP convener earlier in the day, sought dropping of proceedings against him. The court said whether application will be allowed or not is the matter of adjudication. "He has to appear in the court as the Constitution has given immunity to the President and the Governor not to the Chief Minister," the court added. The matter will be next heard on April 1, during which Kejriwal has to appear. Earlier on January 15, the Delhi High Court issued a notice to Kejriwal and expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kirti Azad, seeking a reply from them in the civil defamation suit filed by the Delhi and DDCA against them. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) filed a 2000-page documentary evidence in the Delhi High Court in reply to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's civil defamation case against Arvind Kejriwal and five other party leaders. On December 21, 2014, Jaitley had filed a criminal defamation complaint against Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders for allegedly defaming him in the DDCA controversy before a Delhi court which took cognizance on his plea.
