New Delhi [India], July 16 (ANI): Delhi BJP MLAs on Tuesday met Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel and called for a special session over the increasing price of electricity in the national capital.
BJP MLA Vijender Gupta told ANI, "A memorandum has been submitted to the Delhi Assembly Speaker demanding a special Assembly session. In the name of PPAC (power purchase adjustment charge), the Delhi government has increased the price of electricity. The people of Delhi are suffering due to waterlogging...There is a shortage of drinking water in Delhi. We want to discuss issues related to the public."
BJP MLA Ajay Mahawar said that the Delhi government has put the burden of excess electricity on the public's money through PPAC (power purchase adjustment charge).
"We have called for a special assembly session to hold a discussion on the increasing electricity rates, water logging and other issues related to the public of Delhi. The Chief Minister of Delhi is in jail and he is not able to run the government," he said.
Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva on Sunday slammed the Aam Aadmi Party government over the electricity price hike for domestic consumers, terming the surge in the price of power as looting the people of Delhi.
"Delhi government is looting the people of Delhi. The common man is struggling due to a hike in electricity bills. Every person who is paying the electricity bill with honesty is being looted," Sachdeva told ANI.
In February this year, the Delhi government made a revision to the power purchase adjustment charge (PPAC) by discoms, which has led to a 6 to 8 per cent rise in the electricity bills of domestic consumers.
On Friday, BJP workers led by Sachdeva held a protest in the national capital over the power price hike.
The BJP alleges that the AAP government conspired with the discoms for their benefit. However, Delhi's power minister and AAP leader Atishi countered that the opposition party has misled the public by circulating "rumours" that the PPAC is to blame for the rise in electricity costs. (ANI)
