New Delhi [India], January 30 (ANI): After Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered victory in the Chandigarh Mayoral Elections, Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva said that it's a message that APP needs to be "thrown out" of power and Delhi people will be giving a similar message during Delhi Assembly polls.
"People of Chandigarh have given a befitting reply to corrupt AAP. In the Chandigarh Mayor election, the BJP candidate won and the AAP candidate lost...the message given by the Chandigarh people was that the AAP needs to be thrown out of power, people of Delhi will give the same message on February 5, in Delhi," said Sachdeva.
"This victory becomes more important because Chandigarh police have registered an FIR against the former mayor Kuldeep Kumar for allocating jobs by taking bribes. So the whole of this party is corrupt and they only care about making money and nothing to do with the public," he added further hitting out at APP accusing the party of corruption.
Notably, Moments before the commencement of the election, an FIR was also registered against former mayor and AAP councillor Kuldeep Kumar and his brother-in-law Rahul Chanalia on charges of corruption.
This case is related to the alleged bribe in the recruitment of sanitation workers on a contract basis in the Municipal Corporation.
BJP has registered its victory in the Chandigarh Mayoral Elections by winning 19 votes against the 17 votes of the AAP-Congress alliance.
In this election, BJP candidate Harpreet Kaur Babla emerged victorious over AAP candidate Prem Lata. There are a total of 36 votes in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, which includes the vote of 35 councillors and one Member of Parliament (MP) from the territory.
A total of 19 votes was needed for the majority. The voting for the post of Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation started at around 11 am.
During the voting, three councillors of the AAP-Congress alliance cross-voted against Prem Lata, carving a path of victory for the BJP. (ANI)
