Rohtak (Haryana) [India], September 30 (ANI): BJP leader and former Union Minister Smriti Irani on Monday attacked the Congress, saying that if the Congress party is pro-dailt, then they should declare Kumari Selja as the Chief Minister candidate.
"If there is so much concern for Dalits, then declare Kumari Selja as the Chief Minister candidate, maybe Bhupinder Singh Hooda will also support her," Irani said, addressing the press conference in Rohtak.
Earlier, Congress leader Kumari Selja scotched speculation of her joining the Bharatiya Janata Party and said that she owes the Congress for whatever she is today.
BJP leaders had accused Congress of not giving due regard to Kumari Selja.
Smriti Irani further highlighted Haryana government schemes and said that 'Lado Lakshmi Scheme', we will provide Rs 2,100 to our sisters per month.
"When we are seeking votes of people of Haryana, we are reiterating the fact that through the coordination of transparent Modi government and state government, through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Rs 74,680 crore have been sent to people of Haryana... through 'Lado Lakshmi Scheme', we will provide Rs 2,100 to our sisters per month," she added.
The Lado Lakshmi Scheme is a financial assistance program aimed at providing Rs. 2,100 per month to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in Haryana.
Smriti Irani expressed confidence that the BJP government will be formed in the state.
Haryana will go to the polls on October 5 to elect its 90-member state legislative assembly, with counting set to take place on October 8.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP emerged as the single-largest party, securing 40 seats, while Congress won 30 seats. (ANI)
