Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], April 8 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party's Kathua Billawar MLA in Jammu and Kashmir, Satish Kumar Sharma hit out at the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Congress, and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) and the National Conference (NC) for protesting against the Waqf Act recently passed by Parliament, saying that the parties are "making an issue out of something which is neither in their domain nor in their hands."
Earlier, chaos erupted in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, with over 20 MLAs moving a motion to discuss the Waqf Act in the assembly.
Earlier, NC MLA Altaf Kaloo moved an adjournment motion and sought time to speak in the House, but Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather did not respond.
PDP MLA Waheed Para and other MLAs of the party reached the Well of the House, showing some papers. Following this, they were marshalled out. NC leaders, who had also reached the Well of the House, entered into an argument with J&K People's Conference chief Sajad Lone.
Waheed Para had accused the Omar Abdullah-led J-K government of collaborating with the BJP and "pedalling their agenda.
"When we submitted the resolution today, we were marshalled out. They are completely helping the BJP and working on their agenda. They are making noise and wasting the Assembly's time but pedalling the agenda of the BJP. The BJP is silent, it is happy and watching the drama. The Speaker is saying that it is NC's Government, and the Speaker says that a resolution cannot be brought over this. Why not?" Para told ANI.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Bandipora, Nizamuddin Bhat voiced his objection to the Waqf bill, and expressed his opposition yesterday's assembly session "seeing division on regional and religious lines."
He further promised that if Congress comes to power at the Centre, then they will amend the recently passed Waqf Act.
"Many important bills and other issues need to be discussed today... Yesterday, we got to see a division on regional and religious lines, which should not have been there. We will always be against the Waqf Amendment Act... If Congress forms government in the centre, we will further amend this law," the Congress MLA told ANI.
Opposition parties, including the People's Democratic Party and the Awami Ittehad Party, had moved for an adjournment motion to discuss the Waqf Act, which was then subsequently denied by the Speaker under Rule 58 of the house. PDP MLA Waheed Para was marshalled out of the Assembly premises while protesting against the decision not to discuss the Act.
Visuals from the assembly showed the AIP MLA shouting "mahzab ka mamla hai (issue of Muslim law)," while Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather urged MLAs to sit down. (ANI)
