"Constitution cannot be changed, Congress presenting false facts": Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla

"The talks of changing the Constitution are rumours and fake campaigns. The Constitution cannot be changed. As far as the reservation is concerned, PM has said that it is a social system and it cannot be changed. The way Congress is linking this election with the Constitution and reservation by presenting false facts is not appropriate," Om Birla said.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 4 (ANI): Calling talks of changing the Constitution "rumours and fake campaigns," Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday said the way Congress is linking Lok Sabha polls with the Constitution and reservation "by presenting false facts is not appropriate."
"The Prime Minister of India has an unbroken faith in the Constitution of India. In the Vidhan Sabha Speaker Conference also, he spoke about 'Know your Constitution'. He believed that this campaign should be run in schools and colleges of all the states. The more the people understand the Constitution, the more they will respect it. If every person of the country moves forward by fulfilling his duties, the country will move forward, hence he (PM Modi) always had unwavering faith in the Constitution," Birla said at the National Conference on the capital market in Mumbai.
The BJP leader, who was the chief guest speaker at the conference, also recalled that after PM Modi became the prime minister, there have been programs in the Parliament to celebrate the Constitution.
"Even when he (Modi) was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he had undertaken the "Samvidhan Yatra". The talks of changing the Constitution are rumours and fake campaigns. The Constitution cannot be changed. As far as the reservation is concerned, PM has said that it is a social system and it cannot be changed. The way Congress is linking this election with the Constitution and reservation by presenting false facts is not appropriate," the Lok Sabha speaker added.
Earlier today, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi alleged that the BJP wanted to change the constitution.
"You get rights from the Constitution. The biggest right is to vote. Along with reservation, the Constitution has also given citizens the right to question and agitate. Therefore, when BJP people say that the Constitution will be changed, it clearly means that they want to snatch away the rights of the people," she said. (ANI)
