Congress welcomes Sidhu's new political front `Awaaz-e-Punjab`
New Delhi [India], Sept. 2 (ANI): Welcoming the formation of former BJP Rajya Sabha MP Navjot Singh Sidhu's new political front 'Awaaz-e-Punjab', the Congress Party on Friday expressed hope that the new party is able to sweep the polls in Punjab. "The more the merrier. The Congress Party is confident of its position and that we are forming the government in Punjab. Sidhuji was interested in joining the Aam Aadmi Party and he abandoned the ship. Of course, the larger question is he left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and today he has formed a new formation," Congress leader Tom Vadakkan told ANI. Wishing luck to the new party, Vadakkan said the grand old party is very happy that what has happened is essentially part of a democratic process. "He (Navjot Singh Sidhu) has the liberty to form a new party, and we wish him all the success. But at the same time, we are extremely confident that we will get the mandate in Punjab," he added. Resonating similar sentiments, Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate KTS Tulsi said he was glad that Sidhu has taken this step. "He is an extremely popular sportsman and he is a youth icon.so is Pargat Singh and Bains. Together they should be able to inspire the youth. I am glad that now they are going to reap the fruits of their own popularity instead of let other parties take advantage of them. I would wish them luck. I hope that they are able to sweep the polls in Punjab," he added. Sidhu formed a new political front in Punjab with India's former hockey captain Pargat Singh and Punjab MLAs Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwant Singh Bains. He has named the party 'Aawaaz-e-Punjab'. The 'Aawaaz-e-Punjab' poster says the front will "raise voice against those who have destroyed Punjab". Ever since Sidhu's resignation from the Rajya Sabha on July 18, he has kept the political circle guessing about his next move. Speculation was rife that he would join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as the chief ministerial candidate for Punjab, but nothing materialised so far and the former cricketer and former Amritsar MP did not join even the AAP.
