Congress urges PM to speak on Kashmir Unrest in Rajya Sabha
New Delhi, Aug. 9 (ANI): Taunting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the unrest in Kashmir, the Congress on Tuesday urged him to speak on the subject in the Rajya Sabha as well. "At least after 31 days of curfew, Prime Minister has opened his mouth and has spoken something on Kashmir. But he should also come to the floor of Rajya Sabha tomorrow where debate is being initiated on Kashmir and makes his statement on the floor of the house. That will show the seriousness of the government on the Kashmir unrest as the issue is very serious," said Congress leader Rajeev Shukla. He said if the Prime Minister will speak on this issue in Parliament then it will have a great impact on the people and they will think that the government is serious on the issue. "The duty goes to the Centre and the State Governments. In both the State and the Centre, BJP is the ruling party. It is their duty to bring the youth back to the mainstream and to the right path," he added. Earlier today, Modi said a handful of misguided people were hurting the great traditions of Kashmir and appealed to the youth to join him in fulfilling the dream of making the place the world's paradise again. "A handful of misguided people are hurting the great tradition of Kashmir. I appeal to the Kashmiri youth, come along, we will together realise the dream of making Kashmir the paradise of the world. We give so much love to Kashmir, while some people are causing it a lot of harm," said the Prime Minister, at a public rally after unveiling a statue of freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad at his birthplace in Alirajpur, Madhya Pradesh. The Prime Minister further said the Centre and the BJP-PDP coalition government under Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti are making efforts to solve the problems of Kashmir through development. "The citizen of Kashmir wants to earn more money through tourism. We want to provide employment opportunities to the Kashmiri youth," he said. Expressing his gratitude to the nation and the opposition for showing solidarity with the Centre on the matter, the Prime Minister said, "I want to thank the nation, I want to thank the Congress that we all very maturely made attempts to deal with the situation in Kashmir.
