Congress to release candidates' list for Chhattisgarh assembly polls on Oct 15: CM Baghel

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], October 13 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday said that the Congress will release the list of candidates for Chhattisgarh assembly polls on the first day of Navratri, October 15.
"The list will be released on October 15. After discussion and suggestions and considering the party survey, the list has been finalized. CEC has completed its work," said CM Baghel, claiming that the list of candidates will be very good.
He further said that at the request of party members, the list was not released in Pitru Paksha.
"Winning ability is the only criteria followed in the selection of candidates. We also tried to offer maximum tickets to women," he added.
Earlier in the day, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, MPs Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal and other party leaders attended the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting on the upcoming Chhattisgarh and Telangana Assembly polls.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India announced dates for Assembly polls in 5 States. Polls will be held in Mizoram on November 7, Chhattisgarh on November 7 and November 17, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 23 and Telangana on November 30.
The counting of votes will take place on December 3 in all the states. Of the five states, polling in Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases. The Model Code of Conduct has come into force with the announcement of poll dates.
According to the Election Commission of India, voting for 20 assembly seats in Chhattisgarh on November 7.
The remaining 70 seats in Chhattisgarh will go to polls on November 17 alongside all 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh.
Congress stormed to power in Chhattisgarh in the 2018 elections, winning 68 of 90 seats in the state assembly. The party had a vote share of 43.9 per cent. BJP won 15 seats and had a vote share of 33.6 per cent. (ANI)
