Congress to PM Modi: It is people's govt.; not yours
New Delhi [India], Dec.8 (ANI): The Congress on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of turning a deaf ear towards the woes of the people of the nation and asserted that demonetisation has wrecked the economic edifice of the nation. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that the government is of the people, by the people and for the people and not a government of Prime Minister Modi, by Prime Minister Modi and for Prime Minister Modi. "Modi ji has demonetised the entire economy , he has not demonetised the currency, but has demonetised the people of India by one single unwitting decision. He has wrecked the entire strong economic edifice of India," said Surjewala. "83 people have died yet Modi ji does not want to face parliament. He has run away from the highest temple of democracy. If the Prime Minister will run away from facing the temple of democracy, how will the government run. It is a government of the people, by the people and for the people, it is not a government of Modi ji, by Modi ji and for Modi ji," he added. Targeting Prime Minister Modi on the issue of demonetisation, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi earlier in the day dubbed the move of currency swap as foolish, rather than a bold decision. Gandhi said the decision has been implemented without consideration. Further attacking Prime Minister Modi, he said "If I am allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha, I will show to all how Paytm means 'Pay to Modi." When asked about the disruption in parliament, Rahul said the responsibility of running the House is with the government and the Speaker, not the opposition. With the opposition observing Black Day to vent their ire over the existing problems post completion of one month of demonetisation, the government today cornered the Gandhi family, saying those questioning the ruling dispensation are the ones supporting the black money holders. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said the opposition is not observing a Black Day, but they are voicing their support for black money holders. Taking a dig at the Congress, he added, "Gandhi ji gave call for Satyagrah to see that victory of truth prevails. What are so-called namesakes of Gandhi's doing?" Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar, echoing similar sentiments, alleged that the opposition protest was aimed at garnering media space. (ANI)
