Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], August 23 (ANI): Congress on Saturday carried out a door-to-door campaign in the Amberpet area of Telangana's Hyderabad to apprise people about the alleged 'vote theft' during the 2024 general and assembly elections.
Some of the banners read, "Vote Hamara Khanooni Haq Hai (Voting is our legal right), Vote Choron Ko Jail May Dalo (Jail the vote thieves), Election Commission Vote Chori Band Karo (Stop stealing votes, EC)."
Senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao was seen at the forefront of the campaign, talking to locals regarding the alleged vote theft while accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being involved in the same.
While speaking to ANI, Rao claimed that the government had stolen votes in Maharashtra and was trying to do similar things in Bihar. He said that Leader of Opposition (LoP) Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi was raising the issue so that no one tampers with the right to vote.
"He (Rahul Gandhi) is fighting against injustice in India. He listens to the problems of the poor, farmers, youth, unemployed and rickshaw pullers from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. They (EC and BJP) stole votes in Maharashtra. They are trying similar things in Bihar. We gave proof that 65 lakh votes have been deleted. Rahul Gandhi would have been the Prime Minister. In Bihar, people are questioning their missing names in the voter list. But nobody is there to listen. This is why the youth should raise this issue. This right has been granted by Ambedkar - Adani has one vote, and so does an auto rickshaw driver. This is being tampered with; this is why Rahul Gandhi is fighting it," the Congress leader said.
Rahul Gandhi has launched the "Voter Adhikar Yatra", in opposition's latest effort to highlight concerns over voter disenfranchisement and electoral transparency in the lead-up to the 2025 Bihar assembly elections.
Gandhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday participated in the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar's Lakhisarai, protesting against the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming state elections.
The 16-day yatra is aimed at raising awareness about alleged irregularities in the voter list and what opposition leaders are calling a case of 'vote chori' (vote theft). Covering over 1,300 km across 20 districts, the yatra is scheduled to conclude in Patna on September 1. (ANI)
