"Congress stooping to low-level politics, trying to politicise PM Modi visit to Wayanad": BJP leader N Rao

Speaking to ANI, N Ramchander Rao said, "The Congress party is stooping to low-level politics and is trying to politicise everything which comes to the handle. PM Modi's visit to Wayanad is based on the damage done to the area and the report that the government of India received from that area."

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], August 11 (ANI): BJP leader N Ramchander Rao on Sunday slammed the Congress party over senior leader Shashi Tharoor's remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to landslide-hit Wayanad and accused the party of engaging in petty politics and attempting to politicize the Prime Minister's visit.
Speaking to ANI, N Ramchander Rao said, "The Congress party is stooping to low-level politics and is trying to politicise everything which comes to the handle. PM Modi's visit to Wayanad is based on the damage done to the area and the report that the government of India received from that area."
"Therefore as the Prime Minister, he is visiting the landslides district of Wayanad after the conclusion of the parliament sessions. Instead of appreciating the visit of PM Modi, Congress leaders, mainly Shashi Tharoor and others of the state are politicising it and saying that he should have visited the area much earlier," said Rao.
The BJP leader also took a dig at the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and said that as the senior Congress leader, he visited the landslide-affected region much after the incident took place.
"Rahul Gandhi himself visited the area much later after the disaster happened. Why don't the party members question their own leaders? Moreover, Rahul Gandhi's visit was only a photoshoot, only for a photo op. I think the Congress party, instead of working unitedly for the safety and the betterment of the people of the Wayanad disaster are instead politicising Prime Minister's visit to Wayanad," said Rao.
This comes after Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that it would have been better if the Prime Minister pre-poned his visit and took stock of the situation.
"It would have been better if he had gone earlier and seen the conditions on the ground as some of us have done. I hope that with PM Modi's visit, the government will now make it a point to go ahead and declare this a national disaster so that the appropriate level of assistance can follow," the Congress MP said.
Earlier, PM Modi assured all assistance to aid the relief and rehabilitation after he visited and inspected the landslide-hit areas in Wayanad, Kerala.
The Prime Minister conducted an aerial survey and also physically visited the affected areas during which he was accompanied by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Union Minister Suresh Gopi and Kerala ADGP (law and order) MR Ajith Kumar.
PM Modi also met those who were injured and interacted with the survivors housed in relief camps. In a review meeting, PM Modi reassured that the Central Government and the country are with the disaster-affected victims in the hour of grief. He said a detailed memorandum will be sent by the Chief Minister.
The state has requested the central government to declare this as a national disaster and a severe calamity. (ANI)
