Congress rebuffs Anil Vij's tweet urging nation to forget Nehru
New Delhi[India], July 26 (ANI): The Congress party on Wednesday rebuffed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Haryana sports minister Anil Vij for his tweet urging the nation to forget Jawaharlal Nehru. Congress spokesperson Tom Vadakkan said the party does not want to react on people who don't understand the concept of Indian history. "These are people who won't understand the concept of India. If they have understood it they would have a remarkable people. I would not comment on them who don't know anything about history of India. I don't want to question their performance and credibility but I refused to comment on people who have no idea about our history," Vadakkan told ANI. Taking to Twitter, Vij said President Ram Nath Kovind did good by not mentioning Jawaharlal Nehru's name in his speech. He further said that it would be better for the nation to forget Nehru as soon as possible. Vij's remark came in the backdrop of controversy triggered after President Ram Nath Kovind did not mention former prime minister Jawaharla Nehru's name in his first speech as President. Earlier, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said President Kovind disrespected the freedom fighters by not mentioning Nehru's name in his speech. Kovind, who was sworn-in as the 14th President of India yesterday, remembered Mahatma Gandhi, Bhim Rao Ambedkar and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as patriotic freedom fighters. (ANI)
