Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 9 (ANI): Congress leader Supriya Shrinate has attacked the BJP-led government over "flawed GST" while also alleging that the AAP government has been unable to fulfil expectations of people and political equations demanded that the Congress should fight the Delhi assembly polls on its own.
Shrinate launched a scathing attack on the Modi government over Goods and Services Tax and said "there is tax attack" on people and they should be provided relief in the upcoming union budget.
"Our biggest demand is to rid the country of tax attack... Relief should be given in the upcoming budget. The burden of GST has been imposed on wheat, medicines, curd, popcorn, sale of old car...The government should remove GST on essential things like medical insurance. Congress' 2024 'Nyay Patra' talked of GST 2.0 and GST should be simplified. People should get relief. We were the original architects of GST, it means Good and Simple Tax, there should be one or two slabs, at present there are several slabs, it is all disarray. Small and medium businesses are facing difficulty as also the common man," Shrinate told ANI.
Asked about the Congress fighting Delhi polls on its own while several partners of INDIA bloc extending their support to Aam Aadmi Party, Shrinate said Congress takes a decision according to the situation.
She alleged that AAP government had been unable to meet the expectations of people and it was essential to fix the party's accountability. "That is why we are fighting the polls separately. Delhi has been Congress stronghold, the party ran very successful governments here...Political equations are such that we have to stand alone in the Delhi elections," she said.
Kejriwal said earlier in the day that the Delhi assembly elections will be a direct contest between the AAP and the BJP and not an election of the INDIA alliance.
"Delhi assembly election is between AAP and the BJP. It is not the election of the INDIA alliance. I wholeheartedly express my gratitude to all those parties for supporting us. Mamata Banerjee is supporting us. Akhilesh Yadav is supporting us. I have learnt through media that the (Uddhav) Thackeray ji's party is supporting us," Kejriwal told reporters here on Thursday.
AAP and Congress are part of the INDIA bloc which includes several other parties opposed to BJP. (ANI)
