Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], March 8 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Jitu Patwari on Saturday extended his greetings on International Women's Day while criticizing the state government over "unfulfilled promises" related to women's welfare schemes.
In a message on X, Patwari urged women to demand their rights, particularly the Rs 3,000 financial aid promised under the state's Ladli Behna Yojana.
In a video message, Patwari said, "Women are progressing in every sector, and the era of gender discrimination is fading. However, the state government failed to fulfil its commitments. BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan first gave Rs 1,000, then Rs 250, then Rs 1,250, and now Rs 1,750 is still pending--while Rs 3,000 was promised."
He further alleged that the financial aid continued only until the elections, after which the government stopped the scheme.
Patwari also claimed that over 4 lakh women have gone missing in Madhya Pradesh, raising concerns about women's safety and the government's accountability.
Calling for collective action, he appealed to women to raise their voices for their rightful dues and demand the implementation of promised social security measures.
"Respected mothers and sisters, let us unite on this Women's Day to demand our rights and hold the government accountable for its unfulfilled promises," he urged.
Former MP CM and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced in 2023 that the monthly aid would be increased from Rs 1000 to Rs 3000.
Earlier in the day, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav extended greetings to women on International Women's Day and handed over the charge of his office in Bhopal to women to mark the occasion.
Women police officers handled the CM's security, and women officials took charge of responsibilities from drivers to the Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
"I extend my best wishes to all the women of the country on the occasion of International Women's Day. The culture of India is women-dominated, and that is why we call our country Bharat Mata. On the occasion of Women's Day, all the responsibilities of my office, including driving to security, have been handed over to women. I have some women-centric programs to attend today. The state government is also running many schemes which will improve the lives of our sisters and will become an ideal example of women empowerment," CM Yadav told ANI.
Irshad Ali, a woman who had the responsibility of driving the Chief Minister's vehicle for the day, said that she felt proud to have the opportunity to drive the CM's vehicle and that she would execute her responsibility smoothly.
Another woman taking care of security of the CM Yadav, DSP rank officer Bittu Sharma said, "On the occasion of Women's Day, I have been appointed as Carcade Officer of CM Security. I have been following this responsibility for the last 4 to 5 years. I am happy that the CM has given us this responsibility."
Sub-Inspector Archana Tiwari, who took charge as PSO to the CM, said it would be a great experience to be with the Chief Minister throughout the day on Women's Day.
Inspector Kanchan, posted in CM security, also expressed her pleasure and honor, saying it was a matter of pride that the CM entrusted women officers with his security arrangements for the day.
The women officers felt proud of their roles and thanked CM Yadav for recognizing their abilities and contributions. (ANI)
