Nizamabad (Telangana) [India], October 26 (ANI): Accusing the Congress of being "anti-farmer", BRS MLC K Kavitha on Thursday said that it is "unfortunate" that the grand old party has stooped to this low level to stop schemes for the welfare of farmers in the state.
"It's really unfortunate that Congress has stooped to this low level to stop schemes for the welfare of farmers in the state. These have been ongoing schemes for the last 5-6 years. This establishes that Congress is anti-farmers and Dalits," K Kavitha said.
She further said that if the ongoing welfare programmes in the state are to be really stopped, then all the ''gurukulams' (residential educational institutions) where lakhs of Dalit, BC, minority students study have to be closed and the 24x7 free power and water supply given to farmers has to be stopped.
"There are 250 ongoing schemes running in Telangana, and people are content with these programs. It is only the political parties that are dissatisfied," she added.
Kavitha further emphasized that this once again underscores the Congress party's stance as being against farmers.
"These schemes, Dalit Bandhu and Rythu Bandhu, have been in place for the past several years. Why should they be halted just because there is an election? This only exposes how insecure the Congress party is and how it is perceived as anti-farmer, anti-Dalit, and anti-BC," she stated.
As the election season grips the country, the Congress party on Wednesday registered their complaints with the Elections Commission against the state parties.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on October 9 announced that the Telangana Assembly polls are scheduled to be held on November 30. The counting of votes will be done on December 3.
Telangana is set to witness a triangular contest between the BJP, the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi, and the Congress in the upcoming assembly election.
In the previous Assembly election held in 2018, BRS managed to win 88 seats out of 119 and had a dominant vote share of 47.4 per cent. Congress came in a distant second with 19 seats. Its vote share was 28.7 per cent. (ANI)
