Biswanath (Assam) [India], July 18 (ANI): Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president and Agriculture Minister Atul Bora on Friday launched a scathing attack on the main opposition party, alleging, "Congress is a family-centric party and they divided Assam."
"Congress is a family-centric party. You can see at the centre or in the state, everywhere there is nepotism. Congress had ruled the country for most of the time, and the people of the country had given the opportunity to, even in Assam, after independence. But now people have shown the Congress party the way to the exit door in various parts of the country. The people of Assam also gave their mandate against Congress in the last two consecutive terms," Atul Bora said.
He further stated that Congress had divided Assam and failed to resolve the inter-state border issues.
"Congress had divided Assam, and some districts had separated from us and became new states. They (Congress) didn't fix the interstate border problems. The long pending inter-state border problems are now going to be solved. It is only happening under our government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. This government is committed to securing Assam, and AGP is a part of this government. Today our government has taken initiatives to implement the Assam Accord, delimitation has happened. Every department is trying to implement development works very fast. But during the Congress regime it was not happened," Atul Bora said.
The AGP president criticised the Congress regime, stating that it was marked by killing, violence, corruption, and looting rather than development.
"During that period (Congress regime), people had only seen killing, violence, corruption, loot, etc, not development. The people will definitely compare it to what Congress did and what the current government has done and is doing," he said.
On Wednesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hit back at Rahul Gandhi's "corruption" allegations, saying that the Congress leader's criticism of him is a clear sign that Sarma must be doing something right for the people of Assam.
Rahul Gandhi, who addressed a rally at Chhaygaon, stated that the Congress will sweep next year's assembly polls in Assam and launched a sharp attack on Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying he does not consider himself the Chief Minister but a "king".
Rahul Gandhi stated that the party has a new team in the state, led by party MP Gaurav Gogoi, and it will deliver results.
"The people of Assam know the truth... There will be elections soon, and the Congress will sweep those elections. We have created a new team here. We have started the work, and the people of Assam will soon see the results. We will see it," he said.
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, termed Biswa as India's "most corrupt Chief Minister" and said that someday he would have to "account for it".
He said that the Chief Minister has "fear in his mind as he knows one day 'babber shers' of Congress will take him to jail". (ANI)
