Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], October 27 (ANI): Reacting to the remarks made by Congress leader Digvijaya Singh raising questions on the credibility of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday said that the comments made by the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister reflect that they have accepted their defeat in upcoming Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters in Gwalior, Jyotiraditya Scindia said, "Every time Congress and Digvijaya Singh lose elections, they start raising questions about EVM. It means Congress has started to feel that the public has decided to defeat them in upcoming polls."
Earlier Congress leader Digvijaya Singh raised doubts about the EVM system and said that evidence about voting machine tampering has been found.
"Election Commission, I have only one request from you. Hand us the VVPAT slip which we can put in the separate ballot box. Before counting, count the votes of any 10 ballot boxes and match the results of the counting unit. If the result of both is the same then declare the result from the results of the Counting Unit. What problem does the Election Commission have in this? This is my request to the Honorable Supreme Court, to take it seriously and save democracy in the country. Solid evidence found of EVM tampering!" Digvijaya Singh posted on X.
Madhya Pradesh is one of the five states set to hold elections this year. The state is scheduled to vote on November 17, with the vote count taking place on December 3. Voters will choose legislators from 230 Assembly constituencies.
In the last 2018 assembly elections, Congress won 114 seats with a vote share of 40.89 per cent while the BJP came second and managed to win 109 seats. Its vote share was 41.02 per cent. The Congress came to power with Kamal Nath taking oath as the chief minister but Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with 22 loyalist MLAs, switched over to BJP in 2020. The BJP later formed the government with Shivraj Singh Chouhan as Chief Minister. (ANI)
