New Delhi [India], December 11 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sambit Patra on Wednesday lashed out at the opposition parties for questioning the functioning of the (Electronic Voting Machines) EVMs and said that the Congress has no respect for the Constitution.
The debate over Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) reignited as the opposition is planning to approach the Supreme Court questioning their reliability.
"Since this morning, we have seen news that Congress and some allied parties have decided that they will take the Election Commission to the Supreme Court regarding these assembly election results... The Congress repeatedly goes to the Supreme Court regarding EVM and comes back after being defeated... If anyone has been humiliated, it is the Congress... The working of EVM and the Election Commission have captured this entire process on CCTV and put it in front of everyone through a press conference. Still, the Congress is going to the Supreme Court regarding this entire issue. This shows that the Congress has no respect for the Constitution," said BJP MP Patra addressing a press conference in the national capital.
Earlier in the day, Union Minister Giriraj Singh and Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora criticized the opposition, labelling their move to move to the Supreme Court, as a refusal to accept electoral outcomes.
Echoing similar sentiments, Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora dismissed the opposition's claims as "dirty politics."
He asserted, "They blame the EVM when they lose but not when they win an election. This is dirty politics, and there is no democracy in their parties."
The opposition's petition to the Supreme Court highlights ongoing concerns over the security and transparency of EVMs. While critics claim potential vulnerabilities, the Election Commission of India continues to assert that the machines are secure and reliable, ensuring free and fair elections.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Wednesday met the Election Commissioner. Kejriwal has alleged that the BJP is trying to cut votes from the voters' list ahead of the Delhi Assembly election. (ANI)
