New Delhi [India], October 10 (ANI): Launching a sharp attack on the Congress, BJP MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra on Friday accused the party's communication head Jairam Ramesh of spreading misinformation to "give oxygen to Pakistan in the information war."
Patra alleged that Ramesh's tweet on an alleged Russia-Pakistan defence deal was part of a broader effort to malign India's image ahead of major international summits.
Patra cited an October 4 tweet by Congress's Jairam Ramesh, claiming that Russia and Pakistan had agreed to supply RD-93MA engines for China-made JF-17 fighter jets.
"On 4th October 2025, Congress party's Communication Head Jairam Ramesh posted a tweet...Through this tweet, the Congress party attempted to corner PM Modi and suggest that Russia and Pakistan have reached an understanding, wherein Russia will supply RD-93MA engines for the JF-17 fighter jets available to Pakistan, which were previously manufactured in China. Congress questioned the country's PM, diplomacy and strategic policy...Later, the Congress party's reality came to the fore. It has lost its credibility," he said.
The BJP leader asserted that Russia has categorically denied any such agreement with Pakistan, calling the claim "baseless and fake."
"Russia has made it that no such Agreement is being struck between Russia and Pakistan...This is baseless and fake and there have been no such discussions between Russia and Pakistan...Before G20 or any big Summit in the country, Congress definitely does such things. It does things that would dent the image of India," Patra added.
Patra also directly addressed Ramesh, saying, "I would like to tell Jairam Ramesh that you are not a small leader; you are the Communications Head of Congress. You must have tweeted this only after getting approval from Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi goes abroad, after coming back, he gets such tweets posted and the entire ecosystem gets active...You give oxygen to Pakistan in information war..."
Earlier, Jairam Ramesh had tweeted, "The Modi government must explain why Russia - once India's most reliable strategic ally - has chosen to ignore New Delhi's appeals and proceed with supplying advanced RD-93MA engines to Pakistan's fleet of Chinese-made JF-17 fighter jets. The latest Block III variant of this aircraft will feature the upgraded engine and the same PL-15 missiles believed to have been used against our country during Operation Sindoor. The IAF Chief has also stated that the JF-17 may be among the Pakistani fighters that were used against us," Jairam Ramesh wrote on X.
"According to multiple news reports, this deal is moving forward despite direct interventions by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in June 2025. The government owes the nation an explanation as to why a long-time and trusted partner like Russia is now providing military support to Pakistan, even as India continues to purchase S-400 missile systems and negotiates for Su-57 stealth fighters from Moscow," the post read.
