Kota (Rajasthan) [India], April 18 (ANI): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who is contesting from the Kota Lok Sabha constituency, accused the Congress party of doing appeasement and divisive politics.
Speaking to ANI, Om Birla said, "DMK leaders said that they want to eradicate Sanatana Dharma and Congress is allied with them. Congress never condemned their statement on Sanatana Dharma. If they had considered it wrong, they wouldn't have allied with the DMK. If you support such people, that means you have the same ideology. Congress is doing appeasement and divisive politics."
Om Birla further accused Congress of trying to win elections by dividing people on religion.
"People know that Congress has no leadership, policies or intention to work. The INDIA Alliance has not declared Rahul Gandhi as their PM candidate, and Congress has also not declared their PM candidate. Congress is trying to contest elections by dividing people based on religion. They are also trying to contest the election by spreading fake news," he told ANI.
Speaking on the Opposition's claim that under BJP's rule, the Constitution will be changed, Om Birla said PM Modi has clarified that the Constitution will not be amended even if the BJP wins more than 400 seats. He also accused Congress of spreading false information regarding the same.
"As people started chanting PM Modi's '400 paar' slogan, they (Congress) started saying if BJP crossed 400 seats then we will change the constitution. Congress is trying to scare society by spreading fake news and wrong information," the Lok Sabha speaker added.
Expressing confidence in the BJP's victory in the Lok Sabha elections, he said, "The people of the country and state trusted PM Modi. In 10 years, PM Modi developed the infrastructure, transformed the lives of poor people and increased the power of the country internationally. This is PM Modi's leadership and people have full faith in PM Modi's leadership. BJP will cross 400 seats this time in the country, and a government will be formed. PM Modi has said that '400 paar' doesn't mean a change in reservation or Constitution," the BJP leader said.
The 25 parliamentary constituencies of Rajasthan will go to the polls in two phases. In Phase 1 of polling in the state on April 19, which is also the opening phase of the seven-phased elections, voting will be conducted for 12 seats. The remaining 13 seats in the state will be contested in the second phase on April 26. Kota will be voting in the second phase.
Under Phase 1, on April 19, polling will be held in Ganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Jaipur Rural, Jaipur, Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur, Dausa, and Nagaur.
Phase 2 of polling on April 26 will take place in Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Ajmer, Pali, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalore, Udaipur, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Bhilwara, Kota, and Jhalawar-Baran.
The BJP won all 25 parliamentary seats in Rajasthan in the 2014 Lok Sabha election. However, in 2019, the BJP bagged 24 seats while the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) managed to secure the other remaining seat. (ANI)
