New Delhi [India], July 21 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party MP Anurag Thakur on Sunday criticised the Congress party, accusing them of destroying the essence of the Constitution through frequent amendments.
Speaking to ANI Thakur, said "The Congress has amended the Constitution from time to time. Also, imposed an emergency in India, where the opposition leaders were jailed, media persons were put behind bars, and the common man's rights were taken away. This was the darkest period of Independent India. Emergency was imposed by Indira Gandhi. From Nehru ji to Indira Gandhi ji and then Manmohan ji's regime, more than 80 times amendments were made (to the Constitution)... The Congress party destroyed the essence of the Constitution itself."
Thakur also criticised Rahul Gandhi, saying that despite waving the Constitution everywhere, he couldn't answer basic questions about it, like how many pages it has.
"In a remarkable display of irony, the Congress party historically criticised for undermining the Indian Constitution...A recent manifestation of this irony is Rahul Gandhi waving a copy of the Constitution with him wherever he goes- both inside the Parliament or the public meetings...What is hilarious is that Rahul Gandhi has not read the foreword and the preface of the Constitution copy...Had he read it, he would have answered when I asked- How many pages the original Constitution has? He or his members could not reply to that. He would have known what EBC has written here, how the generations of the Gandhi dynasty have been exposed for their systematic assault on the same Constitution," he told ANI.
He also accused the Congress party of imposing "the dark chapter of emergency" on the country and urged them to abandon hypocrisy and issue an apology to the nation.
"Rahul Gandhi and his Congress party are showing more love for the Constitution. The truth will not change by showing a copy of the Constitution and taking false oaths on it. If anyone has insulted the Constitution, then it is the Congress and the Gandhi family... Has Rahul Gandhi even read the Preamble of the Constitution?
"It describes the black deeds and anti-constitutional acts of the Congress government...Just waving the copy of the Constitution will not work, it will have to be read as well... The black chapter of Emergency was imposed on the country by the Congress. You should give up hypocrisy and apologize to the country," he said. (ANI)
