Congress demands PM's apology over 55 deaths due to demonetization
New Delhi [India], Nov. 19 (ANI): The Congress Party on Saturday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologise for the death of 55 people due to demonetisation. Congress leader Meem Afzal told ANI, "First thing is to address the problems people are facing, and secondly, the house couldn't function yesterday. Our first demand is that as Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this scheme himself, did not think about the after effects. That is why he should come and answer. It is because of this, that proceedings in the house couldn't move further. There have been 55 deaths in the country because of demonetisation and the government should apologise." Both houses of Parliament failed to conduct business for the third consecutive day of the Winter Session on Friday as the opposition refused to halt its protests against the demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes. The opposition in the Lok Sabha resumed their protest as soon as the house assembled for the day's proceedings at 11 a.m. this morning, demanding a discussion on the subject of demonetisation through voting.
