Wayanad (Kerala) [India], October 29 (ANI): Congress leader and party candidate for Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election Priyanka Gandhi Vadhra on Tuesday held a roadshow in Wayanad as a part of her election campaigns.
Earlier today, Vadhra intensified her campaign and gave a speech in Kozhikode and said that people of Wayanad had supported her brother at a time when massive campaigns were unleashed to tarnish his reputation.
Addressing the people, Vadra said "You, the people of Wayanad have shown the country the way. A massive campaign was unleashed against my brother to tarnish his reputation. Lots of money and resources were poured into that campaign. There was a time when everybody was turning their back on him and it was at that time that all of you loved him, voted for him and supported him.
"The Congress general secretary said that Wayand had recognised Rahul Gandhi's fight before anyone else had seen it.
"Today, the whole world recognizes him and his fight way before others saw it. What everyone is seeing today, you have all seen it earlier. The people of Wayanad made a bond of love with him and he is more than grateful for that," she said.
Earlier, Vadra reiterated her commitment to resolve the problems of the people of Wayanad constituency if elected to power.
"My main promise is that I will work hard to serve the people of Wayanad. I will stand side by side with them through their problems & issues and I will fight for them. I will raise my voice on whichever platform I can, especially the Parliament if I am elected. I will do everything I can to help them resolve their issues and have a better life," said Priyanka Gandhi while speaking to ANI.
Wayanad, a Congress bastion is going to see a contest between Congress's Priyanka Gandhi, BJP's Navya Haridas and the Left candidate Sathyan Mokeri in the upcoming bypolls.
Priyanka Gandhi is contesting from the Wayanad constituency as United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate, is seeking election from the seat her brother Rahul Gandhi vacated.
Wayanad seat was vacated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after he was also elected to Lok Sabha from Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh in the general elections held earlier this year.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi kicked off campaigning in Wayanad ahead of the bypolls scheduled for November 13.
Wayanad will go to the polls on November 13 along with voting for bye-elections in 47 assembly seats across 15 states. The first phase of assembly polls in Jharkhand will also be held on November 13. (ANI)
