New Delhi (India) Mar 10 (ANI): The Congress party workers are trying their best to convince former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to contest from Amritsar, said Asha Kumari, in-charge for the party's Punjab affairs.
“It is the unanimous wish of the people of Punjab and the workers and leaders of the Punjab Congress that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh contests the upcoming General Elections from Amritsar. So, we requested him in this regard and he would give a reply about this soon,” she said here on Sunday.
However, she denied any decision in this regard at the Screening Committee meeting which took place in the national capital.
“We will sweep the polls. I feel the Election Commission is already very late,“ said Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, when asked about the announcement of the election dates.
The Screening Committee meeting for Punjab was chaired by senior party leader KC Venugopal. Former Punjab Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Chaudhary Santokh Singh were also present during the meeting.
Singh said: “In the meeting, we discussed all the seats but nothing is finalised yet. It was a preliminary meeting. The seats will be finalised in due course when the Congress president Rahul Gandhi attends the meeting.” (ANI)
