Medinipur (West Bengal) [India], May 25 (ANI): Amid the ongoing voting for Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and candidate from the Medinipur seat, Agnimitra Paul, said she is confident of winning her seat.
Apart from Medinipur, voting is also underway at Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura and Bishnupur constituencies in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections in the state on Saturday.
"We are confident that we will win the Medinipur seat...This is the feedback we have received from the ground level. We have been on the field for the last two months and from there we are confident of our victory," Paul said speaking to ANI on Saturday.
"The work that the Prime Minister has done, the trust that has been built, will not be broken," she added.
Alleging that the West Bengal Police is partial and is arresting BJP workers, Paul said it is not even registering an FIR in a case where a BJP worker was attacked.
"Mamata Banerjee practices disgusting politics and her disgusting police are going to key candidates and arresting them. They are also arresting polling agents. However, on the other hand, they have neither registered an FIR nor arrested anyone when our worker Irfan Mallik got injured in his head. This partiality, assault, and low politics can only happen in West Bengal," Paul said.
The senior BJP leader said that they are ready to overcome all hurdles and will face all challenges posed by the ruling TMC.
"We are in the battleground and we will overcome all hurdles that come in front of us. The TMC will engage in rigging, and cheating because they know that they are losing. The Election Commission and the central forces will ensure just polling. Polling should be held in a proper manner because enough central forces have come," Paul said.
The BJP has replaced the incumbent MP of Medinipur, Dilip Ghosh, with the party's state Mahila Morcha president, Agnimitra Paul, as its candidate for the Medinipur Lok Sabha seat.
On the other hand, the TMC has fielded an actor-turned-politician, June Maliah, as its candidate. The CPI(M) and Congress have chosen Biplab Bhatta and Sambhunath Chattopadhyay as their respective candidates.
BJP's Agnimitra Paul is an Indian fashion designer-turned-politician who served as a Member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Asansol South. (ANI)
