Comparing demonetisation with Uri attack "an insult to nation": Naidu
New Delhi [India], Nov. 17 (ANI): Union Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday condemned leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad's assertion comparing the impact of the notes ban with terrorist attacks and said it is an insult to the nation. Talking to the media here, Naidu said the senior Congress leader has done a blunder with his callous remark and added that he should now tender an apology. "Shocked and surprise by the comment made by the opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad. He said Pakistani terrorist didn't kill even half of our people in Uri than those that died due to government's demonetisation. He has insulted the nation by making such remarks and comparing the demonetisation drive with Pakistani terrorists," he said. "It is condemnable that he is not ready to recognize his fault. There is no doubt that people are facing problems due to demonetisation, but the government is trying its best to make the situation better and help the people. We are also welcoming any kind of suggestions from the opposition. But joining this situation with Pakistan is objectionable," he added. Proceedings in both the Houses of Parliament were washed out today over demonetisation issue. The Lok Sabha managed to transact business only till noon while the Rajya Sabha witnessed five adjournments before both the Houses were adjourned for the day. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Azad accused the government of burdening the public with "wrong policy" and said that the deaths due to demonetisation are higher those who died in the Uri terror attack. "Pakistani terrorists did not kill even half of our people in Uri than those who have died due to the government's wrong policy," he said. Naidu hit back at Azad in the Upper House and said that the Congress leader was insulting the nation by making such comments and must apologise. "Leader of Opposition is insulting nation by making such remarks, by comparing this with Pakistan terror attacks, should apologise," he said. (ANI)
