"Committed to serving people" says first woman MP from Kalahandi Lok Sabha Malvika Devi

BJP's newly elected MP, Malvika Devi, who has become the first woman Member of Parliament (MP) from the Kalahandi Lok Sabha seat in Odisha, expressed happiness over her victory in the Lok Sabha elections and said she will be committed for serving the people of Kalahandi.

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], June 7 (ANI): BJP's newly elected MP, Malvika Devi, who has become the first woman Member of Parliament (MP) from the Kalahandi Lok Sabha seat in Odisha, expressed happiness over her victory in the Lok Sabha elections and said she will be committed for serving the people of Kalahandi.
Malvika Devi, who also belongs to a royal family from Himachal Pradesh, said, "I am thankful to the people and very happy to be elected as the first woman MP from the Kalahandi Lok Sabha seat. I am committed to serving the people of Kalahandi Lok Sabha, which comprises two districts, Kalahandi and Nuapada. I want to turn Kalahandi and Nuapada into the number one district centres in the state."
"Following the Sankalp Yatra of BJP, every woman beneficiary under the Subhadra Yojana will be given a cash voucher worth Rs 50,000. I will also pay attention to the education system, as well as employment in my constituency. I will be trustworthy for my people," she added.
BJP has won 78 Legislative Assembly seats out of 147 in Odisha. After a massive defeat in the State Assembly and Parliamentary elections, the 24-year-old tenure of Odisha CM and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik concluded as he submitted his resignation to Odisha Governor Raghubar Das at the Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
The Biju Janata Dal, which has ruled Odisha since 1997, lost to the BJP, breaking the 24-year-old reign of Naveen Patnaik as the Chief Minister. The Bharatiya Janata Party secured 78 seats in the 147-seat assembly. The BJD secured 51 seats way behind the majority mark of 74 and the Indian National Congress secured 14 seats.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls also BJP performed well by securing 20 out of the 21 parliamentary seats of the state, the remaining one seat was won by the Congress. (ANI)
