Commercial flight operations to resume by April end in Shimla
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], Apr. 5 (ANI): In yet another major initiative to boost tourism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is taking all possible steps to resurface Shimla on the map of air connectivity. Sources said that the Shimla Airport may by April end once again have commercial flight operations, thus giving a boost to tourism and state connectivity. Sources said that to restart the commercial flight operations, Air India has done a trial run of its flight on the runway in Shimla. Sources yesterday said that Air India- Alliance Air with its ATR aircraft has made its trial landing on the hilltop runway of Shimla. The trial flight was accompanied by the officials from the DGCA, aviation security agency BCAS, flight safety and other related agencies. The trial flight was made to ascertain and understand the current preparedness of the runway as well as the airport. Post trial flight suggestions or recommendations will be made by the officials for any changes or add ons so as to make the Shimla Airport all set for commercial operations. Alliance Air CEO C.S. Subbiah has said that they are waiting for necessary approvals from the Ministry and concerned agencies. Subbiah said the airline is all ready to fly as soon as they get approval. (ANI)
