CMs across India heap praise on Rio Silver medallist PV Sindhu

New Delhi, Aug. 19 (ANI): Chief Ministers of various states have praised badminton star P.V. Sindhu for handing over India its second medal - a silver, in women's singles event at the Rio Olympics, while Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister announced rewards of Rs. 50 lakh for Sindhu, who, despite losing an opportunity to bag a maiden gold in the Rio Olympics, created history by becoming the first woman Indian athlete to clinch a silver medal at the prestigious quadrennial event.

Sindhu for handing over India its second medal - a silver, in women's singles event at the Rio Olympics, while Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister announced rewards of Rs. 50 lakh for Sindhu, who, despite losing an opportunity to bag a maiden gold in the Rio Olympics, created history by becoming the first woman Indian athlete to clinch a silver medal at the prestigious quadrennial event. Appreciating Sindhu's performance, Telengana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao's office tweeted, "CM KCR congratulated @Pvsindhu1 for becoming the first ever Indian woman to win an Olympic Silver medal with her scintillating performance. Hon'ble CM hailed @Pvsindhu1 as pride of India, more so of Telangana, and applauded the efforts of coach Sri P. Gopichand." "Government of Telangana will encourage and support sporting talent in the state by extending all cooperation: CM KCR," tweeted Telangana CMO. Hyderabad Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said, "Extremely happy & proud to celebrate @Pvsindhu1's performance as she becomes India's first ever woman to win a Silver at the #Olympics. Coach Gopichand & @Pvsindhu1's story reflects how our investment in Sports will nurture great talent & bring out the best in our kids." Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said in a tweet, "Congratulations @Pvsindhu1 the silver girl of India. You have proved that Indian women are second to none in the world. You greatly carried the hopes of 1.25 billion Indians to the very end & made us proud." Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan tweeted: "Phenomenal performance @PVSindhu1! By winning Silver, you have scripted a golden chapter in our sporting history. Country feels proud. CM @ChouhanShivraj congratulates @PVSindhu1 on her phenomenal play at #Rio2016 #Olympics women's badminton final." Announcing cash rewards for Sindhu and Sakshi, CMO Madhya Pradesh tweeted, "CM @ChouhanShivraj has announced a reward of Rs. 50 lakh to @Pvsindhu1 for clinching a Silver medal. CM @ChouhanShivraj announced that a reward of Rs. 25 lakh would be given to @SakshiMalik for clinching a bronze medal at #Rio2016 #Olympics. @SakshiMalik & @Pvsindhu1 has made us all Indians proud with their remarkable achievements. World number one Carolina Marin, known as the 'Rafa Nadal' of badminton in Spain, closed out a 19-21, 21-12, 21-15 victory over the 21-year-old Sindhu who was absolutely ruthless in her Olympic debut. The 23-year-old lanky shuttler from Hyderabad has now become the second Indian player in badminton to win an Olympic medal after Saina Nehwal, who had clinched bronze in London four years ago. With the feat, Sindhu has also become the fifth Indian woman to clinch a medal in Olympics history after Karnam Malleswari, Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal and Sakshi Malik. (ANI)
