New Delhi [India] Feb 11 (ANI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday continued his "chowkidar chor hai" barb, in a veiled reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the party would not sit idle until a government based on Congress ideology is formed in Uttar Pradesh.
Massive enthusiastic crowds gathered to see Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi as they embarked on a roadshow, which also flags off Priyanka's electoral campaign as the General Secretary of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
As the roadshow halted for a while, Rahul took the microphone and said "chokidar chor hai" and the crowd repeated the same chant.
Attacking the Prime Minister, Rahul said: "The country's 'chowkidar' looted the people of Uttar Pradesh, the Air Force and others in the country. Chowkidar chor hai!"
He added, "Uttar Pradesh is the heart of the country. I have appointed Priyanka and (Jyotiraditya) Scindia as UP general secretaries. Their aim is Lok Sabha but also to form the Opposition in Vidhan Sabha. I have told them to fight against the injustice that UP has suffered”.
"We'll play on front-foot. Scindia ji, Priyanka ji and I won't rest until a government of the Congress's ideology is formed in the state", Rahul emphasised.
Lashing out at the Prime Minister, Rahul alleged: "PM Modi did parallel negotiations on Rafale".
After their bus could not move forward due to low dangling wires, Priyanka, Rahul and Scindia sat atop a vehicle and continued with the roadshow. The three leaders also enjoyed tea in kulhads (earthern cups).
This is the first public rally after Priyanka took charge as Congress's general secretary for eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Uttar Pradesh alone gives 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha. This roadshow by Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi in Lucknow is also the Congress's first mega show of strength in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. (ANI)
