Chhattisgarh: GPS device installed in cycle saved Canadian national John's life
Chhattisgarh [India], Mar. 31 (ANI): Canadian national, John, who was successfully traced back after he had gone missing in Chhattisgarh's Maoist-affected area, was rescued thanks to the GPS device installed in his cycle, said Special Director General (Anti-Naxal operations). "On Sunday, when he was cycling around, he was stopped by some villagers who took him away in to their village. On Monday, somehow he availed emergency support with the help of GPS device installed in his cycle, and he could be traced. Our parties went to the jungle and brought him back," said Awasthi. The officer further stated that the Canadian officials have currently taken John to Delhi. John reached Mumbai on February 14 on a tourist visa, on March 14, he left to Mumbai for Chhattisgarh on a bicycle. As per the police, John was cycling across India and he reached Sukma, the hotbed of Maoists, without any intimation to the authorities. An emergency alert was generated by him via the GPS device tracked on his bicycle. John was last traced near Singanmadgu of south Sukma, after which massive search operation was launched by the police. John is also a member of a Canadian organisation, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship. Earlier, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted that she had spoken to Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik and said that John had gone missing from Odisha's Koraput district, which borders Sukma.
