Chhattisgarh Govt. signs MoU with AAI to improve regional connectivity
Raipur [India], Sept. 9 (ANI): The Chhattisgarh Government on Friday signed an MoU with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for developing domestic air service within the state. The Chhattisgarh Cabinet had earlier conveyed the proposal for domestic air service with an objective to provide air connectivity to all major cities in the states. The decision will benefit cities like Jagdalpur, Ambikapur, Raigarh, Bilaspur, etc. The approval was given by the Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh under 'Regional Air Connectivity Scheme' under New Central Aviation Policy 2016. Speaking on the occasion, Raman Singh said, "Chhattisgarh is now entering a new era. 'Regional Connectivity Scheme' will connect every part of Chhattisgarh, be it air, railway or telecom. It would be decided in the next four months when the services would start." "It is our responsibility to provide air services to the middle class of the society," he said. Minister of State for Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju expressed happiness that the domestic air services were reaching Chhattisgarh. "The efforts of the Chhattisgarh Government in the field of developing domestic air services in the state in commendable and praiseworthy," he said. The Union Government will provide opportunities to aviation companies at concessional rate under Regional Air Connectivity Scheme. Under the scheme those cities will be selected where either air connectivity had been suspended for a long time or it couldn't be started yet. (ANI)
