Chhattisgarh becomes first state to pass motion to support Demonetisation
Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], Nov. 16 (ANI): Chhattisgarh on Wednesday became the first state to pass a motion supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetisation policy of higher currency notes. Chief Minister Raman Singh, who proposed the motion, took to Twitter to show his support. "From abolition of slavery by Prez Lincoln to #demonetization by PM @Narendramodi ji, every country witnesses nation defining moments. The only thing common to these momentous decisions is the iron will, immense courage & righteousness of the decision maker #demonetization," he tweeted. "I, along with 2.5 Crore people of #Chhattisgarh stand firmly behind PM @narendramodi ji, in this hour of national calling." he added. He appreciated Prime Minister Modi for taking such a step promoting unity and integrity in the nation. Earlier, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a surprising move and announced his complete support to the Prime Minister in the implementation of the scheme. While addressing 'Chetna Rally' in Madhubani Nitish Kumar supported the Centre's decision of demonetisation and said this scheme will greatly help in stopping the churning of fake currency. "The notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 have been banned and I am in support of this. The fake currency will stop because of demonetisation and the people who earn black money by shady businesses, their money will be wasted," Nitish said. However, Opposition members in the Rajya Sabha earlier today sought for a probe into the demonetization of 500 and 1000 rupee notes, alleging that there has been a selective leakage of the decision to benefit members of the ruling party. BSP Chief Mayawati charged the government with announcing the scheme without any preparation and opening the floodgates of hardship for the people. She also alleged that the government is trying to divert attention of the nation from its unfulfilled promise. The Upper House suspended the listed business for the day on the demand of opposition parties. Prime Minister Modi earlier today called for a healthy debate on various issues, including the Goods and Services Tax (GST) during the Winter Session of Parliament. (ANI)
