Charkha announces Sanjoy Ghose Rural Reporting Awards 2016-17
New Delhi, Oct. 10 (ANI): The Sanjoy Ghose Rural Reporting Awards 2016-17, instituted by Charkha Development Communication Network - named after visionary social activist and Charkha's founder, has been announced for the year 2016-17. The award aims at drawing out stories on development issues related to women in rural areas, especially from marginalised communities. The writing should be geared to highlight aspects of social development that affect women either adversely or in a positive way, towards empowerment. Several of these aspects are 'hidden'. The aim of the award is to highlight these so that these can inform and influence local administration and policy makers to bring change. There will be three awards, each carrying a cash prize of INR 20,000 (subject to TDS). Eligibility: The award is open to men and women based in Ladakh with a demonstrated interest in writing on social issues. In case they are based outside Ladakh, they should be willing to travel and write on development issues related to women in this region. Journalists associated with a publication or media house are not eligible to apply. Preference will be given to candidates who have participated in Charkha Writing Skills Workshops in Ladakh. The applicants should send a detailed CV giving their educational qualifications, work experience and volunteer experiences. This should be accompanied by one well-researched article written by them. The article should be not less than 1000 words and based on women -centered theme, as indicated. The articles can be submitted in Hindi, English and Urdu. The article should be typed and sent in MS Word format or in case of hard copy, three copies of the typed article should be sent. Two photographs should be sent to support the article. The applicant can submit his/her applications in not more than two entries/themes. (ANI)
