Palasa (Andhra Pradesh) [India], Feb 4 (ANI): BJP president Amit Shah on Monday accused Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of working against interests of Telugus for his political benefit.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which rules Andhra Pradesh, pulled out of the NDA last year over the demand of special category status which was promised during the bifurcation of the state in 2014.
"Chandrababu Naidu has always worked against the interests of Telugus for his own political benefit. We will not allow him into the NDA again. When he became unpopular due to corruption, he started levelling allegations against (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi that he did nothing for Andhra Pradesh," Shah said while addressing a public gathering here.
Intensifying his attack on TDP supremo Naidu, the BJP chief said, "After seeing Modi ji’s fame, Chandrababu Naidu fell at his feet and turned to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He has now joined hands with the Congress. After the experiment in Telanga failed, he joined the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance)."
Shah said that the Modi-led government has gifted many prestigious institutes to Andhra Pradesh.
On the steps taken by the central government for Andhra Pradesh's development, Shah said: "IIT in Tirupati, IIM in Vizag, IISER in Tirupati, IIIT in Chitoor, AIIMS and agricultural university in Guntoor, and various other institutes were given to Andhra Pradesh by the Prime Minister. We have given 22 institutes to Andhra Pradesh. I would like to ask Chandrababu Naidu what he had given to Andhra Pradesh? Did he bring one irrigation project to Ralaseema."
Recounting works sanctioned by the Prime Minister for Andhra Pradesh, the BJP supremo said: "Rs 5,56,985 crore were given to the state for development under various projects. What has Naidu given apart from Nara Lokesh (his son)? Naidu was lying when he said he quit NDA because of special status. Due to the intervention of Hari Babu (Vizag MP) and Venkaiah Naidu, the Modi government gave to Andhra Pradesh much more than what was mentioned in special status."
Shah exuded confidence that the NDA will come to power and Modi would become the Prime Minister again after the coming Lok Sabha elections.
