Centre to constitute teams to report about status of demonetisation implementation

New Delhi [India], Nov. 21 (ANI): The Central Government has decided to constitute teams of additional secretaries, joint secretaries and directors - each team consisting of up to two to three officers for each state or UT - which will visit various states and UTs and will report to the Centre about the status of implementation of its recent decision on cancellation of legal tender character of high denomination notes of Rs 500 and Rs.1,000.

New Delhi [India], Nov. 21 (ANI): The Central Government has decided to constitute teams of additional secretaries, joint secretaries and directors - each team consisting of up to two to three officers for each state or UT - which will visit various states and UTs and will report to the Centre about the status of implementation of its recent decision on cancellation of legal tender character of high denomination notes of Rs 500 and Rs.1,000. They will also check currency availability across the states in the network of bank branches, ATMs and post offices and status of calibration of ATMs. These teams would visit the states allocated to them for a period of at least two days and tour across the state during their visit and will give their reports to the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance by November25. Each of the officers would visit different areas of the state/UT separately, and their focus may be on the rural areas. The teams would, inter alia, assess the status of implementation of the decision and will look into currency availability across the state in the network of bank branches, ATMs and post offices; facilities at bank branches and post offices for deposit/withdrawal/exchange of currency; status of calibration of ATMs to dispense Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 500 currency notes; impact of the decision on various segments/ sectors i.e. households, agriculturists, wage earners, traders, transportation, industries, informal sectors, small business, etc; and any other issue which the team considers important including the nature of problems faced. The team would submit a report based on the above points and also the general outlook and challenges arising out of implementation of the scheme. (ANI)
