Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera

New Delhi [India], Mar 10 (ANI): The Congress party on Sunday claimed that PNB scam accused Mehul Choksi is being shielded by the Centre and is seeking license for starting a new company in London by calling himself a Belgian citizen.
Addressing the media, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said, "Choksi on March 7 applied for incorporating his company 'Reh Venture LLP' in London wherein he has claimed to be a Belgian citizen and given his principal address to be 'Miloni Gems, Jumeirah, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE)'."
Highlighting that India has extradition treaties with both Belgium and the UAE, Khera asked why the CBI and ED were trying to get Choksi from Antigua- a country with which India has no extradition treaty.
"Choksi clearly states that he is a citizen of Belgium, with which India has an extradition treaty. He gives his principal address as Dubai in UAE, a country with which we have an extradition treaty. So why are the Indian agencies trying to look for him in Antigua? If a Lookout notice has been issued against the defaulters how could they register a new company in another country?" he asked.
The Congress' claims come a day after an interview of diamantaire Nirav Modi published in a British newspaper revealed that he has started a new diamond business in Soho.
The video showed Nirav, Choksi's nephew and prime accused in the PNB scam, sporting a handle-bar moustache and wearing an expensive jacket, repeatedly saying “no comments” to a series of questions posed by the newspaper's reporter, including whether he has sought asylum in the United Kingdom.
