Centre beefing up apparatus to tackle cyber crime: Rajnath Singh
New Delhi, Aug 12 (ANI): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said the Centre is discomfited by reports of a rise in cyber crimes, and is taking concrete steps to counter this menace. Addressing the first National Conference of Investigative Agencies in New Delhi, he said, "The Central Government has set up Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) at the national level to deal with all types of cyber crimes. It can be utilized for investigation of cyber-crime including child pornography and online violence." "One of the priorities of I4C will be to prevent attempts by international cyber gangs to infiltrate the Indian networks and hack them," he said. "Due to widespread use of internet based social media by terrorists, we are facing new threats. To face these challenges, the present capabilities of specialized organisation like the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) must be strengthened," he added The Union Home Minister said the government is strongly committed to punishing terrorists and is working to strengthen the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act. He also said that during past two years, 1175 obsolete acts and regulations have been amended. "Our challenges are increasing and to face these challenges, our government is committed to amend or repeal old acts and regulations and enact new laws and regulation, if necessary," he added. The first two-day National Conference of Investigating Agencies has been organised by the Bureau of Police Research and Development and the National Investigation Agency (NIA). (ANI)
