Cauvery dispute: Karnataka government appeals to people to maintain peace

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], Sept 12 (ANI): The Karnataka Government on Monday appealed to people across the state to maintain peace in view of reports that a group of unidentified assailants had attacked the New Woodlands Hotel in Mylapore, Tamil Nadu, over the ongoing Cauvery water row between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said for both states to live in peace such incidents should not occur. "We will take action against them, we have to ensure that there is no anger related issues on both sides," he added. The state's Home Minister, G Parameshwara, too appealed both the sides not to indulge in violence, adding the state has deployed more forces to also ensure that people are safe here. "I appeal to both the state to maintain peace because this is not somebody's making. It is the Supreme Court's judgement. Infact Karnataka got a little relief by reducing 3000 cusecs of water upto 20th of this month to release 1200 cruces of water. We will definitely appeal to the supervisory committee and appeal to the Supreme Court once again but I only appeal to people of Karnataka, people in Tamil Nadu to maintain peace and order," he added. He further asked as to what is the relief when the Supreme Court has reduced water by cusec and extended by days. Meanwhile, Pro-Kannada activists stage a protest in Bengaluru, police detains protesters as protestors vandalise vehicles from where buses leave for Tamil Nadu. Pro-Kannada Protester says "I didn't break much, just a little bit", during the protest. (ANI)
