Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Mar 19 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday urged the people to cast their votes in favour of a party which talks and works for the people’s welfare.
Addressing a gathering here, she said: “You have been casting your vote for their interest. You have to cast your vote to secure your own interest. Politics should be done for your welfare.”
Amidst sloganeering in favour of the Congress leader, she asserted that her party believes in inclusive politics.
“We work for the welfare of people including farmers, small businessmen, and women among others. My brother Rahul is touring the entire country currently to learn about the issues of common people,” she said.
“He has always been vocal about the issues of farmers. He has always said that they should get an apt price for their crops. Our government in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan waived off farm loans within 10 days,” she said.
Attacking the BJP government, she said that most of the youths are unemployed today, and small businessmen have lost their business, and yet this government claims to have done development.
Commenting upon her resemblance to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, she said: “People say I look like my grandmother. I would like to ask you—why the people still remember her? It was her commitment towards people, her passion towards serving them and that is why they remember her.”
The Lok Sabha elections have been scheduled to start from April 11 and will go on till May 19 in seven phases. The polls in Uttar Pradesh will be held in all seven phases. The counting of votes will take place on May 23. (ANI)
