New Delhi [India], January 12 (ANI): Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit lashed out at Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal over the recent Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the alleged 'liquor scam' and said the former Chief Minister's reality has been exposed in front of everyone
Notably, the CAG report revealed a significant revenue loss of Rs 2,026 crore due to irregularities in the Delhi government's excise policy.
"@ArvindKejriwal You have never been able to prove the false allegations you have made against my mother to date. But today the CAG report has exposed your reality in front of everyone. By indulging in corruption, you have directly embezzled Rs 2,026 crore from the people of Delhi. Despite complaints, all companies were allowed to bid. Licenses were also issued or renewed to loss-making companies. Tenders were not reissued to retailers who surrendered their licenses prematurely, resulting in a loss of Rs 890 crore. Giving concessions to zonal licensees resulted in a loss of Rs 941 crore. An illegal rebate of Rs 144 crore was given in the fees of zonal licensees in the name of Covid restrictions. After this report has come out, I can say without hesitation that @ArvindKejriwal, the redness on your face, I now understand that it is due to alcoholism," Sandeep Dikshit wrote on X.
Further, the Congress candidate from the New Delhi assembly constituency and son of former CM Sheila Dikshit, said that everyone remembers the development done under his mother's regime.
"It is very surprising that whichever house we went to, people remember the development done by Sheila Dikshit ji and with the same memories, they are also remembering Congress... Here Arvind Kejriwal has been rejected," the Congress leader told reporters.
Earlier, the CAG report on the Delhi government's excise policy revealed a revenue loss of Rs 2,026 crore to the state exchequer. The report's findings stated that there were deviations from the objective of the policy, a lack of transparency in pricing, and violations in issuing licenses that were not penalised.
Of the losses worth Rs 2,026 crore to the state exchequer, the loss of Rs 890 crore resulted from the government's failure to re-tender the surrendered licenses before the policy period concluded, according to the report. Moreover, the exemptions granted to the zonal licenses led to the loss of Rs 941 crore.
"The department was issuing licenses without checking various requirements relating to excise rules and terms and conditions for the issue of different types of licenses. It was observed that licenses were issued without ensuring solvency, submission of audited financial statements, submission of data regarding sales and wholesale price declared in other states and across the year, verification of criminal antecedents from the competent authority, etc.," the executive summary of the CAG report read.
